Afternoon storm chances Friday before a wonderful weekend
Some early morning, weak thunderstorms rolled through southeast Nebraska Friday morning Favored spots saw about 0.1-0.3″ out of that.
Breezy to start out, we’ll await another shot at scattered storms by the afternoon.
As a cold front approaches, storm chances increase across southeast Nebraska after about 2 p.m. Friday. The more organized storms could be severe, with the worst of it looking to be south of state lines for the most part. Southeast Nebraska’s storms will have more of a tornado potential to monitor as well.
Then by Friday evening, storms in western Nebraska will be diving south and east through south-central Nebraska, missing many of us. But those storms large hail and damaging wind will be of more concern.
The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center has most of Nebraska under a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk. The tornado potential will be a bit higher in southeast Nebraska. The chance to see very large hail and significant damaging winds will be over southwest Nebraska (as seen below).
Then we’ve got a wonderful weekend ahead of us. Temperatures cool into the lower 80s with low humidity behind the previously mentioned front. Couldn’t ask for better weather at this time of the year for any outdoor plans or for travel!
By the time the holiday week rolls around, we’ll become more active in terms of storm potential and warmer weather. There’s already a signal for possible severe weather across northeast Nebraska with Lincoln on the edge at this time.
Be sure to know that we’ll be keeping a watchful eye on this over the weekend, while also enjoying the beautiful days leading up to it.
