Allergy Season Felt Hard In Nebraska
If you suffer from allergies, you've probably already figured out that this is an especially bad allergy season. In fact, doctors say pollen counts are twice as high as they were this time last year.
According to www.pollen.com Friday's pollen count in Lincoln is the fourth highest in the nation. But there are effective medicines that can help your allergies. And there's even a way to cure them.
Plants like ragweed, pigweed, and sage are making a lot of Nebraskans miserable. Dr. Sullivan says the situation is far from hopeless. He says there are many medications available over the counter that will help. But recommends Loratadine because it is the only one that won't make you drowsy. He also likes Allerga, Zyrtec, Claratin, and Clarinex and says many patients benefit from a combination of an antihistamine and a nasal steroid. Another option is allergy shots, which Dr. Sullivan says can actually cure allergies in some patients. It's not a quick solution, however, most patients get the shots a couple of times a week for 3 to 5 years. And if all else fails, rest assured that the allergy season won't last forever.
