Annual pancake feed helps Malcolm Fire Department purchase new gear

Fire trucks, engines, and ambulances lined the driveway of the Malcolm Fire Department Sunday morning.

The volunteer department cleared out their station near 2nd Street and Malcolm Road to make way for their annual pancake feed.

Bright and early Sunday morning people lined up inside the station waiting for pancakes as a way to support their local fire crews.

The feed helps raise money to help the department purchase gear they desperately need.

“We use it for buying some items that we don’t use taxpayer money for that we try to help the department out and the guys outs,” Dave Wacker, a member of the Malcolm Fire Department said.

In the past the fire department has used the money from the feed to purchase helmets, tools, and various other gear.

Wacker says the department does not want to place more of a burden on taxpayers so events like the pancake feed help them get the tools they need to save lives.
