Another day, another warm afternoon, another chance for storms

It feels like you have to have proof that it rained anymore, since we’ve seen so little especially in the month of May. A brief shower did pass by early Tuesday morning. Overall, a similar start to Tuesday as we saw on Monday. The entire forecast will have a “rinse and repeat” feel to it.

Through the morning, we will have some cloud cover still associated with a mid-level system that brought us the brief shower. Eventually, clouds will give way to more sun throughout the day and we’ve got yet another shot at the 90s.

Lincoln Today Hour By Hour

Daytime highs will be in the upper 80s for most, with some stretching to the lower 90s once more. Conditions will be right for another summer-like day. Winds, again, will be out of the south gusting up to around 20 mph.

Dma Today High

Stormcast shows the mid-level system has the potential to spark some scattered storms this afternoon in extreme southeast Nebraska that quickly continue east past the Missouri River.

Then later in the evening, another wave of storms develops to the west bringing another day of storms to the same areas that saw it on Monday. As this line races east, it is expected to fall apart again as it loses ingredients to keep it together as it gets closer. There will be spotty, scattered showers through early Wednesday.

Because of this, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk through most of southwest Nebraska for Tuesday night. A Marginal risk exists for the rest of the state. The primary concerns will be large hail and damaging winds. There’s more confidence in strong winds that could get up to ~75-80 mph.

Enhanced

We’ve entered a 90° stretch for today and into the middle of the week. This active pattern will bring more rain and storm chances through the weekend, with a slight cooldown into Friday.

4 Day Temperature Forecast

Temperatures will still be above averages for this time of year as we close May and turn to June.
