Another nice day before winter returns

We’re looking at another very nice day on Tuesday in southeast Nebraska. The day features a mixture of sun and clouds once again, with high temperatures in the 50s. We’re forecasting highs in the low to mid-50s across the area. Tuesday should be a dry day in Lincoln.

That said, big changes to the weather pattern are soon to arrive. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are underway in central and northern Nebraska late Tuesday through Wednesday night. Most snowfall is expected in the warning area.

Winter Headlines

Rain may start in northern Nebraska as early as Tuesday night, changing over to snow quickly thereafter. Snow will continue in northern Nebraska on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, southeast Nebraska remains dry for much of Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, enough moisture arrives to see freezing drizzle in some areas. However, a dry slot moves into southern Nebraska during the afternoon which could dry things out for some time.

Heading into Wednesday night, a final push of snow showers may pass through central and southeast Nebraska.

SNOW POTENTIAL

The vast majority of snow will fall in northern Nebraska. There, it will accumulate from Tuesday night through Wednesday. Totals probably won’t be all too impressive in southeast Nebraska. Up to 1″ is possible for these areas with any snow showers on Wednesday night.

Since freezing drizzle will be a possibility in southeast Nebraska, some minor ice accumulation may occur. Up to 0.1″ is possible in some areas.

THURSDAY COLD SNAP

Things will dry out on Thursday, and it will be very cold. We’re forecasting a high near 18° in Lincoln. The wind will also be a factor. Subzero wind chill values will be a possibility in some areas on Thursday afternoon.
