Another nice day; Heating up over the weekend
You could not ask for better weather to close out the month of August. Skies will be mostly sunny, and temperatures will be seasonable. We’re forecasting a high temperature in the middle-80s near Lincoln. However, a few areas to the west may make a run for the 90s.
It will also be a touch on the breezy side, with a south-southeast wind anywhere from 12-22 mph during the day. The breeze will likely contribute to the dispersal of wildfire smoke.
We expect near-surface smoke levels to diminish on Thursday. As a result, we’re looking at less of an air quality issue. Even so, the sky will still have a hazy appearance.
As we head into Labor Day weekend, temperatures will heat up. Highs return to the 90s on Friday, and we may end up near 100° over the weekend. Fortunately, the humidity will not be as oppressive as it was during our last heat wave. Nevertheless, it will still feel hot with temperatures near 100°.
FIRST HUSKER GAME OF THE SEASON
The Huskers will take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis on Thursday night, and the weather will cooperate. There will be a few clouds in the vicinity of the stadium on Thursday evening.
There’s also a chance to see a spotty shower or two. Any showers would be quick-hitting and very light should they occur. The rain chance is far from a guarantee. We’re otherwise looking at mostly dry conditions in Minneapolis with temperatures in the 70s for most of the game.
