Another round of storms possible early Friday

The weather was very active on Wednesday night in southern Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds blew through the southernmost row of Nebraska counties. Although we saw less severe weather farther north, heavy rain still occurred for most of southern Nebraska.

Light to moderate rain will continue for the first few hours of the morning. However, we expect showers to let up in intensity and depart as the morning wears on. For the afternoon, we expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with some spotty showers not out of the question.

Stormcast Thursday

Despite the morning cloud cover and rain, there’s a chance to see the sun poke out into the afternoon. That could help push temperatures into the lower-90s in Lincoln. You will also likely notice the humidity.

Thursday Forecast

Thursday evening will feature another opportunity for storms in western Nebraska. Again, these will push into eastern parts of the state overnight and early Friday.

Stormcast Thursday Night

While these storms do offer some beneficial rainfall, they may be on the strong to severe side. A slight (Level 2/5) risk for severe weather is in place in central and southern Nebraska for storms on Thursday night.

Severe Weather Outlook

Wind and hail are the primary concerns, although an isolated tornado is possible in western Nebraska on Thursday evening. Any tornado threat washes out in the nighttime hours as these storms move toward and develop in eastern Nebraska.

Storm chances carry over into Friday and Saturday where we could see a few more rounds of storms. Temperatures will also gradually cool off as this happens. By Sunday, we will trend in a drier direction, with mostly sunny skies and a high in the upper-80s.
