As Nebraska surpasses 20,000 virus cases, a look at the numbers

Cases

As of Tuesday morning, 20,046 cases had been reported.

To date, 193,299 tests have been completed, with 173,027 coming back as negative.

Five counties have more than 1,000 confirmed cases: Douglas (7,500), Lancaster (1,875), Dakota (1,776), Hall (1,605) and Sarpy (1,242). Combined, they account for 13,998 cases – just under 70% of the state total.

Five counties have between 500 and 1,000 confirmed cases: Dawson (861), Dodge (699), Platte (671), Colfax (670) and Saline (539). Combined, they account for 3,440 cases – just over 17% of the state total.

No other Nebraska county has more than 400 cases.

Recoveries

As of Tuesday morning,  14,759 recoveries had been reported.

Recoveries were split evenly – with 49.9% being among males and 49.1% being females.

People ages 65 and younger made up more than 90% of recoveries in Nebraska.

Deaths

As of Tuesday morning, 283 deaths had been reported.

People ages 55 and older made up more than 90% of deaths in Nebraska.

Hospitalizations

As of Tuesday morning, 1,369 total hospitalizations had been reported.

Active hospitalizations were at 109.

People ages 0-54 made up 47% of hospitalizations, while people 55 and older made up 53%.

As of Tuesday, 1,624 of the state’s 3,874 (42%) hospital beds remained available, 372 of the 763 total ICU beds (49%) remained available, and 614 of the 754 total ventilators (81%) remained available.

Trends

Only three counties have seen a significant number of reported cases in the past 14 days.

Douglas County reported 1,111 cases in that time frame, followed by Lancaster (262 cases) and Sarpy (208 cases).

No other Nebraska county reported more than 50 cases in the past two weeks.
