As renovations wrap up, Lincoln Airport considers more changes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Airport says it’s nearing the finish line after more than 18 months of updating the building.

The administrative team is moving into the renovated offices as the project wraps up.

“We still have some flooring and stuff to do, we still have walls up that are getting taken down, but for the most part, everything we need for passengers has mostly been completed,” spokeswoman Rachel Barth said. “It’s just nice to see the airport kind of come together.”

Barth expects more flyers to come through the airport in the coming months.

She said by the end of this year, the airport will have eight flights split between Chicago and Denver.

The Lincoln Airport Authority said it’s considering renovating runways and developing the industrial park next.

Chairman John Olsson said the board is also considering changes in leadership.

After the creation and shutdown of the Red Way airline last year, the airport authority is holding a vote of confidence on Executive Director David Haring.

“An elected official called for his resignation,” Olsson said. “I think that’s the big driver behind a lot of this, is the fact that the Red Way endeavor, as creative as it was, was just not sustainable.”

The vote will be held Thursday at the airport authority’s 11:30 a.m. board meeting.

There will be a public comment period before the vote.

Olsson said that the airport is a “wonderful asset” to the community and that the board is ready to move forward.
