‘Astronomically expensive’ plane tickets could pose problem for Husker fans

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Fans are hoping to recreate the feeling of Pinnacle Bank Arena as the Huskers travel for the NCAA Tournament.

It was a whirlwind season for both the men and women of Nebraska basketball.

Michael Ostdiek said many fans have been longing for this level of success for a decade.

“I think every fan is the same way: They’re excited to see what we can do, they’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” Ostdiek said.

But even the most die-hard fans might cringe at the amount it will cost to make their way to the game.

Plane tickets from Lincoln to Memphis, Tennessee, and Corvallis, Oregon, are around $1,000 per person.

Ostdiek said he had miles saved up to use for flights, but many of his other friends will be driving to Memphis to save money.

And his advice for anyone wanting to put money toward food or a hotel room was to drive.

“Take a bunch of buddies, figure out how you’re going to be able to get there because plane tickets are astronomically expensive,” Ostdiek said. “There’s a lot of zeroes behind the number of what it’s going to cost you to get there, stay there and go to the game there.”

But Ostdiek said he would have gone no matter what, and he’ll travel to watch all of the games as long as the Huskers stay in the tournament.
