At least 6 fires spark up in 3 days as Nebraska authorities send firework warnings
LINCOLN, Neb, (KLKN) — Crews from Lincoln to McCook have battled at least six fires in three days, while urging people to be safe with fireworks.
In Red Willow County, there were two fires Thursday alone.
Authorities are reminding people to not only avoid shooting off fireworks around tall grass, but also be extra careful when driving through it.
The Grand Island Fire Department has sent similar warnings this week, after battling three different blazes.
And here in Lincoln, a town house that caught fire near Seventh and Benton Streets has been blamed on fireworks as well.
Officials say many areas across the state, especially out west, are way too dry for fireworks.
They’ve been asking people to delay using them until conditions improve.
Anyone who chooses to continue shooting off fireworks should give the remains time to cool down before tossing them into the trash.
Soaking them in a bucket will help make sure they won’t reignite later.
