Athlete of the Week: Lincoln East’s Max Moss

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Max Moss is the Class A Boys Golf state champion and Channel 8’s Athlete of the Week.

He shot 5-under par in the championship round to help the Spartans win the team title as well.

The Lincoln East sophomore won in a playoff, and is now the third Spartan to win the individual award since 2004.

“I didn’t have my A-game that day. I got up and down a lot, which definitely saved me,” said Moss. “It was very exciting. Kind of just in shock of what I accomplished.”

Moss says he picked up a club as early as he can remember, and has never put one down since.

While he was grateful to take home gold in his sophomore season, he says the win felt a bit better as a team.

“Individual felt great, but at the same time the team felt great because you can celebrate with your friends and family,” Moss said. “You all have to work together to earn it because it’s what you’ve been working towards all year.”

The second year Spartan said the one thing that has taken him to this next level is his short game.

But at the end of the day, he’s just out on the course trying to have some fun.

“The short game has definitely been the best part of my game, but you can’t just stop grinding on that part. You’ve got to work every part, and you’ve got to be good at everything.”

Moss has a bright future ahead.
