According to Chatman, he had an unofficial visit that helped turn the page for him.
“During that visit, I really got to experience what it’s like to be a player in that program. That pretty much sealed the deal for me,” said Chatman.
The two way player plays a little bit of Quarterback but mainly plays defense, where he excels as a Defensive Back. He says that’s been his focus these past two seasons.
In his junior season, he totaled 37 tackles, seven pass deflections, and four interceptions.
He also produced on offense with 6 rushing touchdowns and 5 passing. Lincoln North Star’s Head Coach, James Thompson had some encouraging words to describe Chatman.
“He’s just a rock star student athlete,” said Thompson. He leads by example every day. He shows up and puts the work in. Every year in his journey he has gotten better, ultimately culminating this opportunity for him at Iowa State.
Chatman still has a senior season to complete, but he also received offers from Kansas state and Wyoming.
After his time is done in Lincoln, he says he’s excited for the next chapter to become a Cyclone.
“I just love football. I love the connections you make, and the friends you meet. It’s a mentally challenging game,” said Chatman.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in front of 40,000-50,000 people.”
