LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One thousand career kills. A special high school volleyball player reached that milestone a couple weeks ago.

Lincoln Pius X senior Faith Venable has been a star for the Thunderbolts her whole career.

Venable has 420 kills her senior season, and averages just over five kills per set.

She credits a lot of her success to her team.

“It just feels great knowing that all my hard work and my team supporting me throughout the way has kind of paid off,” Venable said. “I know it’s just a huge accomplishment.

She reached the 1,000-career-kill mark on Oct. 19, and just four days prior, she recorded another historic night.

The senior tallied 36 kills in the Thunderbolts’ match against Omaha Westside. It’s now a school record.

“She’s truly a leader on the court,” said her coach, Katie Wenz. “She’s that person her teammates look for when they’re struggling. She keeps her composure really well.”

Venable is taking her talents to the next level, but not going very far.

She committed to the University of Nebraska Omaha last year and will suit up for the Mavericks next fall.

Venable is just proud to be able to call Nebraska home.

“Just being close to everyone I love, my parents especially,” she said. “Being able to play in Nebraska for one of the best schools and everything like that.”

Before she gets there, she’ll have at least one more match in a Thunderbolt uniform.

Lincoln Pius X will face off against Standing Bear Tuesday night in the team’s first playoff match
