Athlete of the Week: Lincoln Southeast’s Mike Ngoyi

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Southeast point guard Mike Ngoyi on Sunday was named Channel 8’s Athlete of the Week.

In his senior season, Ngoyi leading the way for the Knights with 17.4 points per game, a huge jump from just a year prior where he averaged 10.6 ppg in his junior season.

The 6-foot-2 guard has erupted for 25 points or more four times this season, and says over the summer he worked at finding more ways to impact the game.

“I tried to expand my scoring on all three levels,” said Ngoyi. “I worked on getting that mid range too, and playing at all three levels, and getting to the free throw line more. I feel like I’ve definitely improved on that.”

In Ngoyi’s final season, he’s the only player that returned to the team in 2025. So, he’s had to step up in a leadership role, but is enjoying every moment.

“I’m really just leaving everything on the table, and just enjoying every singe part of it,” he said. “At some point it’s going to end, so I’m just taking everything in.”

The knights are 13-7 with just two more games to go in the regular season.

If the Knights want to make a deep run in the playoffs, Ngoyi says they’ll have to get a bit better at closing out games.

“Team wise, we just got to learn how to finish out games,” he said. “We just got to be more together, which we have been and we’ve been working on.”

Lincoln Southeast’s final two games will be vs. Millard North Tuesday night, and Millard West Thursday.
