Athlete of the Week: Milford’s Kylie Jakub
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Saturday, the Milford girls’ basketball team accomplished history.
The Eagles secured their first-ever state championship, defeating Malcolm 66-52 in the Class C1 final.
But one senior guard played a big part in that win
Milford’s Kylie Jakub shot 4-8 from beyond the 3-point line, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds. She was one of four Eagles to score in double figures.
She said the big thing was putting trust in her team and God.
“Just knowing that if we second-guess ourselves, things will go bad,” Jakub said. “Just leaning on each other and God through it all was what kept us together.”
Although Milford’s head coach says her performance was no surprise.
“She’s done it all year, stepping up big and hitting some 3s,” said Bryce Roth.
Jakub was also part of Milford’s volleyball team, which won the state title back in November. She describes this “sweep” as no better feeling.
“Everybody dreams of this moment; there’s no better feeling than this,” Jakub said. “Ending your senior season on a sweep is just amazing.”
