Athlete of the Week: Nebraska native Natalie Schneider plays in final Paralympics
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska native Natalie Schneider looks to bring home gold one last time.
Schneider, a mother of three, is a four-time Paralympic medalist for Team USA.
She grew up playing basketball her whole life, until she was diagnosed with bone cancer in high school.
Doctors told her she could walk but never run again.
Six years later, she discovered wheelchair basketball and found her love for the game again.
She competed in her first Paralympics in Tokyo in 2008 for Team USA.
Now, 16 years later, she’s preparing to compete in her fifth and final Paralympics in Paris.
This year’s Paralympics kick off Wednesday and end Sept. 8.
