Athlete of the week: Wahoo’s Kip Brigham

Kip Brigham

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —For the majority of Kip Brigham’s career, he has been breaking tackles. Now, he’s breaking records. The Wahoo Senior totaled five touchdowns and over 300 yards from scrimmage in Friday night’s semifinal win vs. Ashland-Greenwood.

In his senior season, Brigham has recorded 2,571 yards rushing, and 50 total touchdowns. He’s also notched 327 yards receiving. But, he now holds the Class C1 record for most points scored. He also eclipsed more than 5,000 all purpose yards, and 100+ touchdowns in his Wahoo career.

As it stands, Brigham is top ten in the nation in total touchdowns this season.

But, he doesn’t think about that too much.

“Records are cool and all at the end of the season but right now that’s not what we’re focused on,” Brigham said.

Right now, Brigham is focused on another state championship. After the Warriors 61-21 win vs. the Blue Jays, they’re headed to Memorial stadium for the third straight season. They’ve won 25 straight games dating back to 2023, and have a chance to go back-to-back.

But, with Kip’s success he’s seen on the field at his time at Wahoo, he credits all the players and coaches around him.

“It’s definitely not me. I’m absolutely nobody without my teammates and my coaches,” said Brigham. “The coaches come up with incredible play calls, also credit to the players. The line does a great job.”

With just one game left for Brigham’s career at Wahoo, he’s not only focused on leaving as a winner, but also setting the standard for Wahoo football.

“I just hope us seniors can leave the younger guys with a blueprint of what it’s like to be a Wahoo Warrior,” said Brigham. “It’s a great place to be, and what we preach here is culture, and leaving a legacy that the younger guys can follow.”

Wahoo will play 12-0 Sidney Nov 25, 10:15 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
