Authorities ID officer, woman in northeast Nebraska police shooting

NELIGH, Neb. (AP) — Neligh Police Chief Michael Wright is the officer who shot a woman accused of dragging him with her car, according to Antelope County Attorney Joseph Abler.
Abler also identified the woman shot as Josie Auld, 38, of Norfolk.
The shooting happened Sunday afternoon after reports of a road rage incident on U.S. Highway 275 that led to a disturbance at a Neligh convenience store parking lot, the Nebraska State Patrol said.
According to the patrol, the 47-year-old Wright was making contact with Auld in the parking lot when she sped off, dragging Wright. Wright then fired his gun, hitting Auld before he fell from the vehicle, investigators said.
The patrol said a witness to the shooting forced Auld’s vehicle off the road.
Wright and Auld were taken to an area hospital. Auld was later transported to an Omaha hospital for treatment of her wounds.
Officials said both Auld and Wright are expected to survive.
The state patrol is investigating the shooting in the northeast Nebraska town of about 1,500 people.
Neligh is about 150 miles northwest of Lincoln.
