Authorities investigating video showing car explosion at Lincoln business

Authorities are investigating after receiving a report about an explosion that destroyed a car at a Lincoln business.
Lincoln Police said someone reported the incident Tuesday at 5657 N 57th Street, which belongs to ALLways Towing Inc. in northeast Lincoln.
Channel 8 Eyewitness News found video of the incident posted online that shows someone lighting the fuse to what appears to be a large firework or other type of explosive device laying in the front seat of a car in a lot. The car appears to already be damaged.
The person who lights the fuse then runs for cover behind some nearby vehicles and watches with other people as the device detonates and the car explodes, debris flying into the air.
Channel 8 Eyewitness News spoke to several people in the area who said they found debris littered across the surrounding area, and damage to nearby businesses.
A police spokeswoman said the video and other evidence has been turned over to fire inspectors to review to determine what, if any, citations could be issued.
Channel 8 Eyewitness News spoke to ALLways Towing Inc.’s owner over the phone Wednesday afternoon. He said he thought the device was a smoke bomb and had no idea it was as powerful as it was. Following the advice of his attorney, declined to comment further.
