Avoid congestion and headaches as Volleyball Day takes over Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One of Lincoln’s biggest events of the year is just hours away. It’s officially Volleyball Day!
And all of the excitement will likely create headaches for drivers, with tens of thousands of fans heading to Memorial Stadium.
Gates don’t open until 3:30 p.m., but you should prepare for increased traffic all throughout the day.
Authorities have been putting together a game plan to make sure this historic day is just as safe as it is thrilling.
The City of Lincoln is teaming up with NDOT and NSP to keep everything running smoothly and prevent crashes.
They’ve shared some recommended routes and exits you’ll definitely want to avoid.
NDOT is telling everyone to steer clear of Exit 409, but LTU tells us you won’t want to take Exit 401 either.
It says people coming into the city from I-80 should use Exits 399 or 403 instead, so you’re not stuck in congestion.
Once you arrive downtown for Volleyball Day, parking could also be a big issue.
You can reserve a spot, but fewer than 200 spaces were still available as of Wednesday morning.
If you’re already in Lincoln, it may be better to hop on a free shuttle instead.
Head to this website for all of the shuttle locations, as well as a full guide to closures and more.
