Low-income students get free tablets and backpacks at Lincoln back-to-school bash
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – With summer coming to a quick end, many low-income families still need school supplies.
So the Mourning Hope Grief Center hosted a community back-to-school bash on Friday, giving away tablets and backpacks filled with school supplies.
“We really make a drive out here on our campus to make sure that all families can access services and we can offer something to everyone,” said Carly Runestad, executive director of Mourning Hope.
The College of Hair Design was also there, offering free haircuts.
Kona Ice made snow cones, and kids had a blast dancing to music and playing with bubbles.
“It takes a village, and we have to be engaged in our community in order to find the resources that we need,” said Andrea Evans, executive director of the Our Dream Achievers Arts and Science Program, which got the free tablets for the event.
