Backlash for being cast as Ariel is no shock to The Little Mermaid’s star Halle Bailey
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Halle Bailey says backlash to her being cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” wasn’t really a shock.
In a new interview Bailey revealed, “As a Black person, you just expect it.”
After the teaser first dropped, parents shared videos of their Black daughters marveling at an Ariel that looked more like them. She says she was in disbelief.
Bailey credits filmmakers for incorporating her authentic identity into the film.
She said a significant amount of prep time was devoted to analyzing how her hair moved in the water.
