Barney Cotton recovering from heart surgery

Barney Cotton, a former offensive line coach at Nebraska, who also played offensive line at the university, is recovering from heart surgery.

His family released a statement on his current recovery process.

It reads in part:

“Within the past week, the Lord has blessed us with the incredible gift of life through heart transplant surgery at Nebraska Medical Center. The medical staff tells us the surgery and recovery up to this point have gone as expected.”

The family thanked staff at the hospital, and all those who have reached out to send their well-wishes.

Cotton took over as the interim coach for the Huskers following the firing of Bo Pelini.

He’s currently UNLV’s offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.

His family says he was struggling with his heart health since June.
