Barrier-breaking officer in National Guard retires after 40 years of service
ASHLAND, Neb. (KLKN) – A special retirement ceremony took place on Friday at Camp Ashland, the Nebraska National Guard training site.
Chief Warrant Officer 5 Teresa Domeier served in the military for over 40 years, most recently holding the position as the command chief warrant officer of the Army National Guard.
When she became the command chief warrant officer in the Nebraska National Guard, she was the first female to hold that position.
The same was true when she was selected to the national command.
She said she feels honored to be a role model for all the women in the armed services.
Domeier said she has had women come up to her, thanking her for “breaking glass ceilings” and motivating them to stay in the service.
She said it was hard for her to leave her family and husband behind in Nebraska during her four years in Washington, D.C, as her husband took care of both of their moms.
During the ceremony, she was officially retired and received the Legion of Merit Award, one of the nation’s military honors.
She and her husband live outside of Denton and plan to relax and enjoy their retirement.
