Beach at popular Nebraska lake closes because of E. coli

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A beach at one of Nebraska’s largest lakes is being closed ahead of the Fourth of July.

Gremlin Cove Beach at Harlan County Lake is shut down due to high levels of E. coli, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

A water sample from the beach had an E. coli level of 365.4 colonies per 100 milliliters of water.

Anything above 235 colonies is considered unsafe.

The water will be retested weekly starting Monday.

Gremlin Cove will stay closed until the E. coli falls below the unsafe threshold.
