LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Beatrice Public Schools on Thursday released its plans for handling COVID-19 during the upcoming school year.

The district says it plans to “operate in a traditional learning environment” during the 2021-2022 school year.

That could change if there is a state directed health measure or federal mandate requiring schools to implement stricter protocols.

BPS also said certain steps will be taken if there is a COVID-19 outbreak, which the plan defines as 10% or more of the student/staff population testing positive (or 250 people total).

If an outbreak occurs, BPS says it would look to implement some or all of the following safety protocols for a 1-10 school day period:

  • Universal mask wearing
  • Physical distancing
  • Handwashing
  • Contact tracing
  • Testing & screening
