Below average, cooler stretch; watching for winter comeback
Hopefully you didn’t get too comfortable in yesterday’s pleasant upper 60s because we’ll be backing off those temperatures for a while going forward. We’ll be below normal or close to it for some time through almost the rest of March, with rain and snow returning to the forecast.
But first, a much cooler day expected today. Few more clouds will float on by, but we’ll be mostly sunny.
With a reinforcing colder air mass coming into play, highs will be about 20 degrees colder than yesterday. What a difference that makes!
We’ll be off the mark of normal temperatures by about 5-10 degrees on Wednesday, too. Northeast winds will be around 10-20 mph.
It really wouldn’t surprise me if most of us stay dry through the end of the work week. There’s a limited chance for mainly rain late Thursday into Friday morning.
Focus is starting to shift toward a better likelihood of rain to snow Sunday and Monday. Those are the days expected to be the most impacted of the next 10.
You’ll first see Thursday night-Friday’s chance clip northeast Nebraska for the most part as you look into Stormcast below. We would mainly see some light rain in southeast Nebraska if anything. Then, Saturday there’s a spotty chance for some very light snow/a wintry mix across the state.
Sunday should feature mainly rain off and on, with a few thunderstorms possible by Sunday night. Monday the rain is expected to transition to snow that lingers into Tuesday.
The better chance for accumulating snow looks to be from a line that goes through south-central Nebraska up through northeast Nebraska.
This system looks to bring heavy precipitation to the area, with the potential for at least a half inch to an inch and a half across much of eastern Nebraska through Tuesday.
Most of the precipitation will fall Sunday and Monday, bringing some meaningful moisture.
