Bicyclist killed when hit by train in north Lincoln, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A bicyclist was killed Monday morning when he was hit by a train in north Lincoln, police say.
Just after 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the crash involving an Amtrak train near 33rd Street and Cornhusker Highway.
A man’s body was found in the ditch west of the crossing, according to LPD. The bicycle was discovered on the rocks just south of the track.
Investigators determined the man was biking through the crossing when he was hit by the train, police said.
The railroad crossing arms were down, the lights were flashing and the train sounded its horn, according to police.
The intersection was shut down for several hours due to the crash. It has since been reopened.
An investigation is ongoing.
