Bird flu detected in backyard flock in Saunders County, officials say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture on Thursday reported another case of bird flu in the state.

In a press release, the department said a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza was found in a backyard flock in Saunders County.

This is the third time in 2025 that bird flu has been detected in a flock in Nebraska.

In December, bird flu cases were reported in Nemaha, Dodge, Sarpy, Lancaster and Johnson counties.

Agriculture officials said producers should report poultry experiencing signs of bird flu to the state Department of Agriculture at 402-471-2351 or the U.S. Department of Agriculture at 866-536-7593.
