‘Bittersweet’: Lincoln’s Malone Center torn down to make way for larger building
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Demolition of the Malone Center’s main campus began Monday to prepare for a larger space to better fit the community’s needs.
The Malone Center has had little to no updates since its foundation in Lincoln decades ago.
The center offers a variety of programs, including for mental health.
It also many programs for school-age children, including one intended to promote good relationships with police.
The changes are “bittersweet” to CEO John Goodwin.
“This building comes with a lot of great memories, so we don’t want to forget those memories,” he said. “One eye may shed a tear of sadness, the other eye may shed a tear of happiness, but we are excited about what we are getting ready to do and what this building will provide.”
The center will continue to use its other locations in Lincoln as it awaits its new building.
The estimated completion is 2025.
