Black Business Expo celebrates local vendors at City Impact

Black History Month

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Coinciding with Black History Month Lincoln showcased A Black Business Expo where locals could shop, talk and support Black owned businesses.

The event was sponsored by Sarah’s Southern Comfort Foods and Sarah Dea Sscfllc in the City Impact Building. Customer’s interacted in person with some of their favorite online vendors.

Products ranged from skin care to food, the money used to purchase these items went back into these business owners’ pockets.

Sheri Jackson Moore, owner of Valincia’s Daughter Skincare, said it’s important to remember Black business owner’s outside of February.

“Beyond Black History Month all that is helping us build generational wealth,” she said.

Moore said she believes that many businesses can contribute their successes to Black business owners and workers.

“That’s helping us live the American Dream,” she said. “I think we all want a part of that; each one to teach one.”

Moore said she was inspired by statistics she read that said a dollar only stays in the Black community for around half an hour compared to other races.

“Once I heard those numbers, I thought it was so important to take my dollars and pour it back into the Black community,” she said.

Others at the business expo felt the same sentiment. For couple Andre and Bunny Wright, the path was faith-based music under the name Blessed Life.

“I always was a fan of gospel music but as I grow older my life began to change,” Andre said.

His life experience would be the roadmap for what he would sing about which eventually developed into his career.

Bunny supports Andre by working on the vendor side of their business which got its start during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There is a lot that goes through our mind when it comes to setting up for our customers,” she said.

Bunny said it can be a gamble to know what certain customers would want to buy, but show’s like the expo make it easy to speak face-to-face with their customers.

Throughout the expo guests were treated to food, raffles and live performances to set the mood.
