Black Friday madness hits capital city

Gateway Mall opened its doors at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day and people in Lincoln came out to take advantage of the early hours.
Big discounts drew major crowds to the mall. Many shoppers waited in long lines at stores like GameStop to save money and stock up on gifts. Others say the great deals, fun atmosphere, and adventure of shopping are part of the thrill of shopping on Black Friday.
Some shoppers say the usual Black Friday rush is gone. “It’s a family tradition. It was fun to wake up and the adrenaline. Fighting for that special gift. It’s just not there anymore,” says Steph Schernikau.
Some savvy shoppers say they knew where to look to get the best bang for their buck.
“I just came from New York and Company, and they had awesome sales. Cardigans, sweaters, dress pants, you name it, at 50 to 80% off. So really great deals,” says Erica Donaby.
Gateway Mall and the SouthPointe Pavilions will both be open late Black Friday, shoppers can also expect discounts through the weekend.
