Blazing heat peaks Sunday and Monday
While Saturday’s been hot and the entire state has been under a Heat Advisory, it’s important to remember how heat-related illnesses can sneak up on you in these conditions. Make sure you know the signs and how to act when you notice them.
And the heat this weekend is expected to peak Sunday into Monday, with actual air temperatures in the upper 90s and lower 100s through the worst of the afternoon Sunday.
And expecting it to still be quite hot on Monday as well. We know it isn’t just the heat that makes conditions uncomfortable and dangerous, but really the combination of heat and high humidity. Humidity will still be a factor both Sunday and Monday.
The Heat Advisory for southeast Nebraska will upgrade to an Excessive Heat Warning starting at noon on Sunday, lasting until Monday evening. Heat index could be as high as 110° in the counties shaded in pink down below.
The rest of the state will continue their Heat Advisory through Sunday evening in northern Nebraska, and through Monday evening for southern Nebraska.
There are isolated storm chances mainly in central Nebraska on Sunday, with a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for a storm or two to threaten hail and damaging wind. Yet that threat shifts over northeast Nebraska on Monday as a front drops south, increasing storm chances into the middle of the week.
One thing to look forward to in the near future: relief felt as soon as Tuesday as the humidity backs off and temperatures drop to the 80s.
