Boater ticketed after 9-year-old hit by propeller at Lake McConaughy

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 9-year-old boy was severely injured Sunday when he was hit by a pontoon propeller at Lake McConaughy.

It happened about 1 p.m., when the Colorado boy was wading near the Sandy Beach shore.

After he was hit, he was flown to Anschutz Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission said the driver of the boat, a 40-year-old Colorado man, was drunk.

He was ticketed on suspicion of boating under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation of a motorboat and violating safety regulations of the Nebraska State Boat Act.

Conservation officers are still investigating.
