Day seven marks one full week of the Bailey Boswell trial in Lexington, Nebraska, and Thursday morning, the prosecution called FBI Special Agent Eli McBride back to the witness stand. McBride described the process of law enforcement finding and documenting where Sydney Loofe’s body was found.

After LPD Investigator Bob Hurley tracked the movements of Boswell and Trail’s phones in rural Clay County, areas of concern were blocked off beginning on December 4, 2017 as searches began.

At the first crime scene, McBride says law enforcement found Sydney Loofe’s arm on which there was a tattoo that read ‘everything will be wonderful someday.’ Also found at scene one was a foot and lower arm.

McBride describes that it was the afternoon of the 4 that the first parts of Loofe was found, and the weather conditions, early sunset, and lack of law enforcement that day forced them to secure the area and resume the search the next morning.

When they returned on the 5, investigators found that the body parts had been moved slightly. “It appeared to be by some type of animal,” McBride says.

As the jury is shown intense and horrific photos of the dismembered body parts, Boswell could be seen at her table visibly emotional, wiping tears away and not looking at the screens.

McBride walked the prosecution through the variety of crime scenes from that day, which included them finding Sydney’s lower legs, thighs, and pelvis. Investigators also found a variety of other items at different scenes that were collected as evidence; clothing and pajama pants that appeared to be bleached, rubber gloves, trash bags, and a case to a large machete.

Over 50 members of law enforcement were present these days, walking along ditches and searching close to 30 square miles of land searching for the remaining parts of Loofe’s body.

Special Agent McBride appeared visibly disturbed as he explained what they found on that day.

Investigators identified 16 different crime scenes on December 5, all of which either had pieces of Loofe’s body or other miscellaneous items such as tarps, rubber gloves, sauna suits, trash bags, pajamas, a bleached bed sheet, clothing and clothing that had been cut into many different pieces.

The final piece of evidence found was a white fleece Columbia jacket. The prosecution then showed the final Snapchat photo of Sydney Loofe that was sent to her mom and friends on November 14 which was captioned ‘ready for my date.’ In the photo, Loofe is wearing a white jacket.

Agent McBride testified that 13 pieces of Sydney’s body was found, missing just one.

“The part of her body we did not discover would have been her left arm just above her elbow to just beneath her shoulder,” McBride testified.

After multiple searches, the body part was never recovered.

During the afternoon testimony, McBride talked about another search of Boswell’s apartment in Wilber, where they were looking for any evidence of how, when and where Sydney was killed and dismembered.

In the apartment, investigators found an anatomy textbook, a variety of tools, heavy duty zip ties, and cans of hair dye among other things.

Investigators also found an Apple iPhone box, who’s serial number matched Boswell’s cell phone that was confiscated during her arrest in Branson.

In the apartment, investigators found a fitted bedsheet on Boswell and Trail’s bed that matched the flat bed sheet, that appeared to be bleached, and was found at the first crime scene in Clay County on December 4.

Areas of discoloration on the carpet in the apartment were removed and sent to labs for further testing, as well as tubing from the washing machine and bathtub.

Next to the stand was Sgt. Rich Zimmerman with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, who also previously testified in this case.

Zimmerman detailed the search for Sydney Loofe’s phone and car keys on December 5, 7, and 9 of 2017, with a smaller team searching the western side of Wilber, along Highway 41 and 15.

Along Highway 41 was Sydney’s driver’s license, which was cut into multiple pieces, along with her VISA card and phone case, which had also both been cut into multiple pieces. Sydney’s cell phone, which was shattered and bent, was also found.

On Highway 15, the keys to her car were discovered. All of these items were found on the north side of the highways, indicating that they could have been thrown from the passenger side of a car traveling that direction.

Finally, in March of 2018, a final search of the Highway 41 and Highway 15 area was done after LPD Investigator Bob Hurley found that cell phone data showed that Boswell and Trail’s phones had driven further down that road than initially believed. Sgt. Russell Kalkwarf found a women’s white shirt and well as a bra.

The shirt appears to match the shirt Sydney Loofe was wearing in her Snapchat photo from November 15, 2017.
