Boyfriend of Lincoln woman shot in the head arrested for the shooting, victim expected to survive

25–year–old Davonnis Wilkinson, a mother of five has been fighting for her life since her boyfriend Rashaun Jones allegedly shot her during an argument September 9.

We heard from family a few weeks ago, they said she was reaching small milestones in her recovery.

“She is still fighting and breathing pretty hard for herself,” Darayon Pittman, Davonnis’ cousin said. “She’s moving her arm and her leg, opened her eye since surgery.”

Police said Tuesday, she’s expected to make it.

“Davonnis Wilkinson is expected to survive, albeit with significant functional disability,” Officer Angela Sands said.

We also know who police believe pulled the trigger. Her boyfriend, and the father of her five children, 27-year-old Jones.

Jones has been in jail since police arrived on the scene of the shooting.

First arrested for a third degree assault against Wilkinson the same day as the shooting.

Then, in the days following, their investigation brought to light an incident where Jones threatened her with a gun.

“Witnesses said he displayed a handgun and pointed it at her while yelling,” Sands said.

Now Jones is facing charges of first degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

“After completing interviews, conducting neighborhood canvases and extensively processing the crime scene, investigations developed probably cause to believe Jones shot Davonnis during an argument.”

Police said he had blood on his hands and clothing when they got there, and he was the only adult in the home during the shooting.

They found a gun in a sewer nearby, Sands said. The ammo in it, she said matched ammo found inside the home.

Jones appeared in court on those charges Tuesday afternoon.

He’s being held on $500,000 bond and was ordered not to see Wilkinson if he posts the required $50,000 to leave prison.

His family didn’t have any comment on Jones’ latest arrest, but a friend told us last week, they were heartbroken for Wilkinson and her family.

“I can’t imagine what they’re going through,” Lonshay Brown said.

The family is raising money to help pay for medical expenses and also the needs of Wilkinson’s children.

She has a five-year-old, four-year-old, two three-year-olds and three-month old infant.

The boyfriend of a Lincoln woman who was shot in the head has been arrested for a fourth time.

Lincoln Police say Rashaun Jones is accused of first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Jones’ girlfriend, Davonnis Wilkinson, was found shot in the head in her town home near 3rd and Farfield on Sept. 9th.

Police say after completing interviews, canvassing the area and processing the scene, investigators say they developed probable cause to believe Jones is responsible for shooting Wilkinson.

Police say Jones was the only adult in the house at the time.

Jones had previously been arrested for making terroristic threats, domestic assault against Wilkinson, and drug charges after police served a search warrant at the home where the shooting happened.

Police say Wilkinson is expected to survive her injuries, but with significant functional disabilities.

A judge set bond for Jones at $500,000 Tuesday afternoon, and ordered him to have no contact with Wilkinson.
