Brand new Emergency Operations Center in Lincoln unveiled

Wednesday morning was the official unveiling of the new Emergency Operations Center in Lincoln, near 14th street and Highway 2.

It originally belonged to the Lincoln Police Department, but after a $1.1 million investment, and two years of hard work it was transformed into the new Lincoln Lancaster County Emergency Operations Center.

“The new facility that we have is really cutting edge technology,” The Director of Emergency Operations Jim Davidsaver said.

There are 28 different workstations for city crews to communicate during an emergency situation.

The new space is 1,000 sq ft. bigger than their old facility, and it makes it much easier for the Emergency Operation Center to organize and to get information out to the public.

“The sad part is it may be a little invisible because if we do our job right the impacts are diminished because we respond faster, we’re prepared, there’s better coordination, it’s a little more efficient,” Lincoln Fire and Rescue Chief Micheal Despain said.
