BraveBe’s annual costume race raises money for child abuse and neglect
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – BraveBe Child Advocacy Center’s annual Monster Dash highlights the fall spirit of costumes, while raising money to stop child abuse and neglect.
BraveBe provides forensic interviews and medical evaluations to children suffering from child abuse and neglect.
The Monster Dash is a way for the community to come together and enjoy costumes, treats and the scenery of Roca Berry Farm.
“It’s just such a fun event for the kids to come out in their costumes,” said Destiny Burkett, director of donor engagement and philanthropy for BraveBe. “It’s just a lot of fun for us to have the families come out and participate and raise money for a good cause, which is helping kids.”
Funds raised from the dash will go towards services of these children.
“It’s really, really important that we are able to support them during their time of crisis and help them through their process of healing,” Burkett said.
She emphasized the community’s importance to raising awareness and supporting these children during this time, saying they are on pace to serve 1,400 kids, and increase from the 1,200 kids they serve on average.
“They’re in crisis, so I think there’s nothing more important than being able to support them, help them heal, help them process what has happened to them,” says Burkett. “Making sure they’re receiving all of the services they need, to be healthy and to grow and thrive.”
