Man killed in shooting identified, arrest made

Authorities have identified a man killed in a shooting that occurred in north Lincoln Thursday morning.

Lincoln Police identified the victim as Desmond Fowler, 47, of Lincoln (pictured on right).

Lincoln Police arrested Michael Dewey, 22, (pictured on left) for first-degree murder, attempted escape, and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Law enforcement swarmed the scene near 27th and Holdrege Street around 9:40 a.m. Thursday, across the street from a police substation. Officers were on scene within a minute, police said.

Witnesses said they heard anywhere from three to eight gunshots. Police said at least one shot was fired but did not confirm exactly how many there may have been.

Authorities seized a vehicle they believed from reviewing surveillance video to be involved, and said Dewey was the driver.

Lincoln Police say they know there are other witnesses who have information that have not come forward, and they are asking for the public’s help with the investigation. Police said they believe Dewey is the only one responsible for the shooting.

Family members told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that Fowler was a father of one, and leaves behind many other family members in the city.
