Teen arrested in fatal Lincoln stabbing

Authorities announced Tuesday morning they have made an arrest in the stabbing death of 36-year-old Edward Varejcka from earlier this month.

Police have arrested 15-year-old Marsalis Phillips. Phillips is charged with second degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. A motive is still under investigation.

The stabbing occurred on March 8th, in an apartment building near 22nd and Orchard Street. Varejcka was found with multiple stab wounds. He was transferred to a local hospital where he later died.

In a press release, the Lincoln Police department says, “Through witness statements, investigators learned that at least three individuals entered Edward’s apartment and a physical fight ensued. One of the intruders produced a knife and stabbed Edward several times in the torso. As crime scene investigators processed the scene, they located a knife in the immediate area that is believed to have been used to stab him.”

Earlier this month, police had arrested three other people in connected to the stabbing. On March 22nd, 18-year-old Victor Melendez III was arrested for aiding and abetting murder.

Police said Melendez III served as a lookout for police while the stabbing took place. On March 18th, Krysean Reynolds and Makayla Fell were arrested for accessory to a felony for their involvement in the stabbing.
