Brigadier General Craig Strong sworn in as Adjutant General of Nebraska National Guard

LINCOLN,  Neb. (KLKN) – After 10 years of serving as the Adjutant General of the Nebraska National Guard, Major General Daryl Bohac relinquished his command to General Craig Strong on Saturday Morning.

The ceremony was held inside Pinnacle Bank Arena in front of hundreds of National Guard Troops, families, and friends.

Governor Jim Pillen was also in attendance and swore General Strong into the position of Adjutant General with an official oath.

Strong was handpicked by Governor Pillen in May and when asked what it was he liked about Strong, Pillen mentioned his leadership skills and passion for the state of Nebraska.

“General Strong is a lifetime Nebraskan, he’s got an incredible heart, passion, grit, determination and tremendous leadership skills,” Governor Pillen said.  “His love for Nebraska and his belief in the National Guard is second to none and he’ll be a tremendous leader.”

General Strong takes over with nearly 30 years of experience within the Nebraska National Guard. He joined in 1993 when he completed officer candidate school and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in 1995.

During his time, General Strong has received two Bronze Star Medals, seven Meritorious Service Medals, and the department of the Army’s General Douglas Macarthur Leadership Award, but he gives all the credit to the men and women who serve alongside him.

“Really, today isn’t about ‘me it’s about we’ and we as a National Guard and what the soldiers and airmen do for our state.” General Strong said. “They are true citizen soldiers and they are the best Nebraska has and they are out every day doing their best for the state and to me today was a celebration of them.”

Major General Daryl L. Bohac leaves the position after a decade of service.

Bohac began his military career in 1978 as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and later joined the Nebraska Air National Guard. He says he is now looking forward to enjoying more activities outside of the office.

“Maybe get in a lot more fishing than I’ve been able to do and some Cubs baseball.”
