‘Bring it back’: Lincoln man upset after trike he rode to help with Parkinson’s is stolen
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man is upset that someone stole his tricycle, which was more than just a way for him to get around.
The trike provided James Young the only sense of relief for his pain from Parkinson’s disease.
But it was taken from his backyard on Friday, leaving Young to manage the pain without it.
Young said he is known around the Near South neighborhood as the trike guy.
“I called it the Youngs-mobile,” he said of his wheels.
Young said he “rode it all over town.”
Research from the Pedaling for Parkinson’s program said patients who rode three days a week over eight weeks showed improvement in symptoms by as much as 35%.
And Young rode his trike every day.
After the theft, his friends came to the rescue.
“Fortunately, I had some friends that had a spare they loaned me. It’s not the same, but at least I can get around now,” he said.
The stolen trike is a maroon Schwinn Meridian with a cup holder, horn, light and basket.
Young said he normally chains it up at night. But Friday, he forgot.
He said the thief must have been on the lookout because the trike is hard to see from the sidewalk.
And he doesn’t think the thief is someone from the area.
“We have a neighborhood watch group, we have a block party every year, we know all the neighbors,” Young said. “So somebody just walking by saw it, took it.”
Young is hoping to see his trike again. He said he’s willing to give a $100 reward for anyone who returns it.
“Somebody bring it back,” he said. “No questions asked. Just drop it off.”
