Bryan Health’s ‘5055’ building cutting costs in Lincoln

Last March, Bryan Health opened its 5055 building near 50th and A streets.
The $25 million building is an ambulatory surgery center.
Bryan Medical Center President and COO John Woodrich said having surgery in an ambulatory surgery center costs patients less than if they have it in the hospital or in an inpatient setting.
“This is a beautiful facility that offers you access at a lower dollar cost for doing procedures,” Woodrich said. “And that’s what we’re trying to accomplish here.”
Thus, he said the 5055 building provides a less expensive option for the same quality care.
“We know that in today’s environment, more of the dollars spent is being put on the patient their self and maybe the insurance companies aren’t paying as much,” he said.
The building also allowed physicians to relocate, freeing up space in the other campus facilities.
It also has larger rooms for surgeries.
“There’s more equipment that’s coming out to make it a safer environment for patients,” Woodrich said. “And you have staff in the room and as procedures get more complicated, you want to make sure you have enough staff and availability for them to move around and get the equipment in place.”
The building still has room to grow. Woodrich said one of the four floors is vacant and that it’s available for other physicians to add their private practices to.
