Bryce McGowens named AP Big Ten newcomer of the year

During his freshman season, McGowens averaged a team-high 17.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 30 starts.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska freshman Bryce McGowens has been named AP Big Ten newcomer of the year.

McGowens was the first five-star recruit to sign with Nebraska.  During his freshman season, he averaged a team-high 17.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 30 starts.

McGowens’ 17.2 points per game lead all freshmen nationally in 2022.  This is the highest scoring average by a Big Ten freshman since Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell in 2014-2015.

The Huskers will take on Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday night at 5 p.m.

The game will be televised on BTN and the Huskers Radio Network.
