Business booms in downtown Lincoln as sea of red returns to Memorial Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – This summer brought record inflation across the country.

With the price of gas and groceries skyrocketing, it seemed fewer people wanted to spend their money on a night on the town.

“Day-to-day business was a little bit slower,” said Rosie’s general manager Josh Munford. “We have a couple of things during the week that are fun like cornhole tournaments, things that bring people in. We try to keep business going throughout the summer as well.”

Adding to the problem of slower business was the absence of thousands of college students that leave Lincoln during the summer.

“It’s definitely a bit slower than it is when all the students are here,” said the assistant manager of Alumni Hall, Hannah Nelson. “You still get a couple of people coming in still getting husker gear just because.”

While the summer months are a bit slower for the businesses around Memorial Stadium, the thousands of Husker fans descending on Lincoln more than makes up for those slow summer days.

“It’s extremely surreal, you know, just having this many people coming in and out of here, you’re very grateful for the support,” said Munford.

Rosie’s had already had several thousand people getting drinks and having fun before the halftime show had started.
