Shivers Sweets N Treats at Indian Village off 13th and Arapahoe saw hundreds of smiling faces for its grand opening today.
But it was a different story at Pepe’s Bistro next door, where owner Pepe Fierro prepares to move downtown.
"Things kind of became a challenge with the new growth of Lincoln,” Fierro said. “But we’ve been given a huge opportunity with a local progressive business."
For Shivers owners Mike and Prisca Bretta, this isn’t their first store front either.
The couple used to own snowflakes on Cotner Boulevard.
"When they called me saying they were going to open a new Snowflakes, we decided to call it Shivers and they asked me to be the manager," Shivers manager Tessie Schroeder said.
The new shop features shaved ice, ice cream, malts, shakes and more, with more 100 flavors to choose from.
As for their current neighbor, Pepe’s, the vegetarian bistro still plans to carry their customer favorites to their next location.
"The menu is going to be simplified but some of the favorites like the Cuban sandwich the sweet potato wrap and those are going to just fly out," Fierro said.
Pepe’s says they’re hoping to make their move downtown in May.
The bistro is merging with another undisclosed company, and the two will announce more information soon.
