California man dies in I-80 crash in central Nebraska; driver cited
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A California man was killed Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 80 in central Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol said traffic was backed up between Elm Creek and Overton because of a stalled vehicle in a construction zone. Elm Creek is about 15 miles west of Kearney.
About 3:30 p.m., an eastbound SUV failed to slow down and hit the back of a semitrailer, the patrol said.
The passenger of the SUV, 54-year-old Masood Rasooli, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 28-year-old California woman, was taken to a hospital in Lexington with serious injuries.
No one in the semi was injured, according to the patrol.
The driver of the SUV has been ticketed on suspicion of motor vehicle homicide and careless driving.
Eastbound I-80 was closed for about four hours, the patrol said.
