LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A California man will spend over six years in federal prison after he was caught in Nebraska with thousands of fentanyl pills.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 25-year-old Alejandro Berrelleza-Bojorquez was sentenced Friday in Lincoln for possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and 100 grams or more of opioids similar to fentanyl.

On March 7, 2022, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper pulled over Berrelleza-Bojorquez on Interstate 80 for speeding in Dawson County.

The attorney’s office says the trooper smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to a search.

Inside, authorities found 10 bags, containing about 10,000 pills, hidden under clothing.  Another 15,000 pills were found in several Zip-Lock bags.

Berrelleza-Bojorquez and the passenger, Orlando Castro-Gutierrez, were then arrested.

Later on, authorities found a 1-kilogram brick in the vehicle’s trunk.

After being tested at a lab, the pills were found to contain fentanyl and para-flurofentanyl, which is an analogue of fentanyl.

The brick also contained fentanyl, according to the attorney’s office.

After his prison sentence, Berrelleza-Bojorquez will serve a four-year term of supervised release.  There is no parole in the federal system.

The attorney’s office says he will also face deportation from the United States.
