California teen crochets quinceañera dress
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- 15-year-old Naomi Mendez from Riverside County, Calif. crocheted her own quinceañera dress.
A quinceañera is a Hispanic tradition that honors and celebrates a girl’s 15th birthday.
“I’ve been crocheting for a while, and I was just like, ‘you know what I want to see how far I can go.’ So I was like, ‘Mom, can I crochet my quinceañera dress?’ And she said ‘Sure, why not,'” Mendez said.
She is self-taught and has been crocheting for a couple of years, mostly making dolls for her friends and family.
Naomi had been documenting the ambitious months-long process on her Instagram. She reported that it took her the better part of a year to complete.
Her efforts paid off, and Mendez celebrated her quinceañera with the finished dress.
